Short Overview:


Jokai Botanical Garden cum Germplasm Center amidst Jokai Reserve Forest is 12 km from Dibrugarh town. Apart from the storehouse of germplasm of some of the valuable and endangered species of flora of this region, the center is a showcase of the floral biodiversity of the area. The various zones of this center include Orchid house, Medicinal and aromatic plants plot, Rainforest specimen plot, a water pond etc.

Jokai Botanical Garden cum Germplasm Center spread over an area of 1.2 Ha. amidst Jokai Reserve Forest is 12 km from Dibrugarh town on Mancotta-Khamtighat road. Elephant ride to have an overview of the richness of Jokai Reserve Forest, a retreat to scenic beauty of Era-suti along northern boundary of Jokai Reserve Forest famous for migratory birds.

The Jokai Reserve Forest had been a rich treasure trove of various species of flora and fauna which included some important species which are nearly extinct now. Besides, the reserve forest is also home to various types of butterflies. Some of the commonly found animals are the Assamese macaque, leopards, elephants, deer, and wild buffaloes, slow lorris, civet cats, etc.

Jokai which houses a lot of fruit bearing trees attracts a large number of migratory birds every year and around 100 species of these migratory along with residential birds had been recorded in the reserve forest. Moreover, there are around 17 species of reptiles present here.

The rainforest falls within a humid zone, characterized by high precipitation. High humidity and heavy rainfall are the distinct features of this evergreen forest. Although there is a certain amount of rainfall in every month, the annual rainfall recorded was 3640 mm in 1999. Other species which are available in the top canopy are Sopa, Dhuna, Sam, Hollong, Jatuli, Borpat etc. The species found in the middle canopy are Nahar, Morhal, Hilikha, Jamuk, Selleng, Bhomora and many more.
