The Guwahati Planetarium, located on MG Road, is one of the major attractions of Guwahati. Inaugurated on 17th Aug. 1994. The Planetarium is getting a unique hybrid planetarium projection system, the first one of its kind in the entire northeast region. At an interval of every two hours, these programs are conducted in different languages like English, Assamese and Hindi.
Long Overview:
Guwahati Planetarium is one of its kind centre of astronomical research in Assam and the entire North-Eastern region of India. The planetarium is an important center for scientific research and astronomical studies. The Guwahati Planetarium is constructed into a dome shaped with sloping walls setting it apart from other planetarium designs. The Planetarium hosts daily shows in English, Hindi and Assamese at different timings.
Apart from the daily shows, the planetarium also organizes seminars, workshops and conferences for children and students of various educational institutions. Every year, students from different institutions come for educational trips to gain knowledge regarding astronomy. The shows are also conducted for astronomy fraternity, along with exhibitions and quizzes for students and local people. During eclipses, the Planetarium puts out the telescopes and astronomical devices for the public to view them. The Guwahati Planetarium witnesses an average footfall of 500 per day. The planetarium is an effort to educate the students and people about the universe and the mysteries it beholds.
