Ugratara temple is located in the western side of Jur Pukhuri tank in Latasil area of Guwahati city in Assam. It is located in the eastern part of Guwahati. It is an important Shakti shrine and is related to Goddess Sati, the wife of Lord Shiva.  It was constructed in 1725, by King Shiva Singh of Ahom Kingdom. He also excavated a tank, known as Jorepukhuri, in the east of the temple. The main festival celebrated in Ugratara temple is Navaratri or the festival of nine nights.

The Ugratara Temple is one of the most sacred and important pilgrimage centres of Assam. Dedicated to Goddess Ugra Tara (considered as another form of Goddess Parvati), the temple was constructed by King Shiva Singh of the Ahom Kingdom in 1725. On the east side of the temple, you will find a water tank called the Jor Pukhuri. The upper section of the temple suffered considerable damage due to an earthquake. Since then, it has undergone several renovation and modification attempts. 

During the festival of Navaratri, pilgrims from far and wide come to the temple to offer their prayers and participate in the festivities. the place is considered to be an important shakti shrine in India and is regarded as very sacred by the thousands of devotees who come to visit the place every year. The temple is also connected to Buddhism and related to Eka Jata and Tiksna Kanta of the Buddhist pantheon.
