Short Overview:



Ashtabuja Perumal Temple is located at Pillayarpalayam near Kanchipuram about 1.5km west of the Varadaraja Perumal temple. It is part of the 108 holy places of Vaishnavites. The presiding deity is Adikesava Perumal along with his consort Alamelumangai. The idol has eight arms (Ashtabuja) that carry weapons. The temple is one among the 108 Divyadesas of Perumal. This is the only Perumal temple where there is a belief that the Lord appears with 8 hands-bhujas. A separate Mangalasasanam is addressed to Mother by Azhwar only in this temple.

Long Overview:


Ashtabhuja Perumal temple located in kanchipuram is dedicated to the Hindu God Vishnu. The temple is believed have built by the Pallavas about 8th Century AD.   The constructed structure is in the Dravidian style of architecture. The temple is glorified in the Divya Prabandha, the early medieval tamil norm of Azhwar saints. It is one of the 108 Divyadesam dedicated to Vishnu, who is worshiped as Ashta bhuja Perumal and his consort Lakshmi as Alameltingumangai. The temple has three inscriptions on its walls, two dating from the period of  Kulothunga Chola and one to that of Rajendra Chola. A granite wall surrounds the temple, enclosing all the shrines and two bodies of water. There is four–tiered rajagopuram, the temple’s gateway tower, in temple.
