The Parthasarathy Temple is located in the Peyalwar Koil Street in Triplicane, Chennai, which is around 1 km away from the Thiruvallikeni MRTS railway station.

The temple is one of the oldest structures in Chennai, The Parthasarathy Temple is dedicated to Sri Krishna  as Parthasarathy.

The Parthasarathy Temple at Thiruvallikeni (Triplicane), Chennai is one of the Divya Desams in Tamil Nadu.  Sri  Parthasarathy is the sarathi  (charioteer) of Partha (Arjuna) during  the battle of Kurukshetra described in the epic Mahabharata. It  is  in  this battlefield that Sri Krishna gave the message of Bhagavad Gita to humanity.

The Parthasarathy Swamy Temple is one of the 108 Divya Desams, is said to have been renovated 
by a King of Pallava dynasty.

"Brindaranya" is the traditional Puranic name of Thiru-Alli-Keni now known as Thiruvallikeni or modern Triplicane,The Parthasarathy temple in Chennai has its origin back in 8th century. It  was generally built by the Pallavas and later reformed by the Vijayanagar Kings during 11th century.

The literal meaning of 'Parthasarathy' is the charioteer, Indian epic 'Mahabharata' 'Partha' meant Arjuna while sarathy is  meant  as  charioteer.  In  the  epic  it  is said during the great battle   of Mahabharata Lord Krishna was the charioteer of Arjuna.

In the epic Arjuna or partha was a brave warrior and Lord Krishna was a good friend, philosopher and guide to the Partha or Arjuna.
