This Temple is located Southeast of Baihata Chariali near Guwahati at Kamrup district in Assam.It is belived that Kama or Madan, the God of Love was reborn in this place after being turn into ashes by angry Lord Shiva.This temple has Renowned archaeological & pilgrimage center and tourist spot.A six headed Bhairab, 4 armed Shiva, terrible looking demon, men-women and others are images present in the temple. some in erotic postures here would explain that this temple was dedicated to Kama or Madam - God of Love.

Madan Kamdev Temple, located near  Hajo 34 kms north of Guwahati and 42 kms east from Hajo atop the Dewangiri Hillock. People were not aware of Madan-Kamdev for many years, because the ruins were hidden by the trees and bushes of the dense forest, Since 1981.Madan Kamadev or "Pancharath" had been built in 5 sections in the affluent nature of Brahmaputra valley. 





Nagara architecture had been used in the well-sculptured temple having images carved out of monolithic rock. Erotic images had been sculptured in the ornamentation. Uma and Maheswar, being the warranting deities of the temple, are the main attraction.Madan Kamdev is an enigma, a mystery, a marvel which speaks about the ancient Kamrup. Scattered all around the Dewangiri hillock with an idyllic back drop of green hills and flowing rivulet, are griffins, nymphs, dancing fairies, gods and goddesses in cosmic evolutions, walls, pillars, lintels and door frams decorated with flowers, animals, Kalpa-vriksha (the tree of fulfillment), six sided Bhairava, four headed Shiva, Demons, Serpants and men, women and animals in every conceivable erotic postures, all in ruins-ruin of gigantic proportion - that is Madan Kamdev. A six headed Bhairab, 4 armed Shiva, terrible looking demon, men-women and others are images present in the temple.  there have been some excavations at the site.. All of them were built in the 11th-12th centuries A.D.
