Elliot's Beach is among the cleanest beaches in Chennai. Located in Anne Besant Nagar, Chennai. It is a well-known place for relaxing and soaking in the sun. A prominent landmark on this beach is the Karl Schmidt Memorial. It is a popular hangout place for Youth and old people alike. The other interesting sight seeing here is the Velankanni church and the Ashtalakshmi temple where you can always see tourists visiting this place.
Elliot's Beach is an extension the famous
Marina Beach in Chennai towards south direction located near Besant Nagar. You can see more of youngster’s crowd here and is much
calmer and well maintained than the Marina beach.
As the beach does not offer
much activity, it is ideal for long walks. Elliot Beach is one of the most
significant landmarks as it also provides its visitors with a range of
multi-cuisines together with an array of restaurants and fast food centers.
Another site of attraction is the Ashtalakshmi Temple, located on the southern
end of the beach. It is dedicated to the eight manifestations of the Goddess
Mahalakshmi, also known as the Deity of Wealth and Peace. Besides this, there
are temples of Tumbikai Aazhwar (Ganesha), Guruvaayurappan, Chakrathaazhwar
& Narasimhar (on either side of the same idol), Aanjaneyar &
Dhanvantri. In addition to the sandy beach, there is a stone monument sited on
the Elliot's Beach constructed as a mark of honour to a Danish sailor, Karl
Schmidt who died at the time of saving a man from drowning. Visiting this
beach gives you immense pleasure amidst the illuminated sands especially in the
nights.
