Kalakshetra or today also known as 'Temple of Art' is located in Thiruvanmiyur, outside Elliot's beach in south Chennai. The School is set in a gigantic 40 hectare (i.e 99acres) campus, where classical music and dance are taught according to the traditional methods by which a guru imparts knowledge to a small group of students. At the end of each year, a festival is held and performances are staged in an auditorium designed like a Koottambulam, the traditional theatre. Here you can explore the academy's various divisions like the Rukmini Devi College of Fine Arts, Rukmini Devi Museum and Craft Education and Research Centre.
